The society is run by volunteers who provide their time and skills to help run the organization and the events. Board members handle all the activities associated with planning the monthly events, managing the wine cellar, tracking and communicating with the membership and writing the newsletters.
Board members either hold a specific position (such as membership director) or are Directors at Large filling in for other board members as / when needed. Board members are expected to participate in the board meetings, which occur approximately monthly, required to operate the society and to run at least one event per calendar year. All board members help out in the organization and running of the annual Summer BBQ.The board consists of the following roles:
- President - Lead the board and be the primary public face for the Society
- Vice-President and Public Relations Director – Stand in for the president and represent the board to industry groups
- Secretary – Call, run and record all board meetings
- Treasurer – Run, manage and report on the society’s finances
- Cellar Master – Run, manage and report on the society’s wine cellar
- Web Master - Run, manage and report on the society’s web site, newsletter and email activities
- Membership and Registration Director– Run, manage and report on all membership activities including event registrations
- Directors at Large – Assist the board or individual members as required.
Elections for board positions are held each year, normally during the Annual General Meeting. If vacancies in board positions occur during the year, the board can appoint AWS members to the vacant positions.
Members are encouraged to help out with monthly events and should indicated if they are interested in holding Board positions.
